Yes, it is dandelion season once again!

The milder than usual weather conditions here in Sault Ste. Marie has really helped with this years dandelion season. The cooler weather that we were experiencing has helped keep the dandelions from growing too fast and has allowed multipule pickings.

My previous blog entry about dandelions was found by a reporter from our local newspaper, the Sault Star and yesterday I was interviewed by them for a story on dandelions. Glad to see the search engines are working and has indexed my blog. In the article I will be sharing my recipes and hope to come up with some new recipes to share with other dandelion fans.

A local photographer and graphic designer is teaching Saultites to look at smoke in a whole new way.

Mark Primavera opened his new show Smoke last night at Loplop's Gallery on Queen Street.

He said he spent several afternoons photographing smoke created by grouping incense cones beneath a paper funnel he made to gather and thicken the smoke plume.

"Out of about 500 images shot in an afternoon, I might get five or six I can use," he said.

Primavera used coloured gels to tint the smoke in some photos and the images he created suggest things other than smoke.

And it's all done without a single mirror, he insists.

Some images give the illusion of figures or furniture.

Others hint at blades of grass or a human eye.

Primavera said he was heavily influenced throughout his career as a photographer by his father, a photographer himself.

"I think my first camera (I got it when I was about five years old) was heavier than I was," he says. "But my dad, who has been taking pictures for more than 60 years, says he still has things to learn about photography."

Primavera said that he has been inspired by some of the most ordinary things he sees.

"Sometime, I'd like to sneak into the A & P at about 2 a.m., set up and take a bunch of pictures of the oranges," he said. "I think the night manager may find that a little odd, though."

The photography exhibit Smoke will be on display at Loplop's Gallery until the beginning of September.

During the past two months things have been quite crazy! I recently moved out of my subterranean apartment and now I am glad to say that I am living above ground.

Soon the studio will be set up and looking forward to seeing all the models again, it has been a long time and have been missing working with them. Now that the good weather is around the corner I look forward to outdoor photo sessions and shooting digital infrared again.

Since I didn't have internet for a few days I decided to give my site a small face lift - nip here - change a few colors and added the News system now with RSS.
